In that I really do NOT want to lose any of my Triumph friends, please go to

IIHS-HLDI: Crash Testing*&*Highway Safety

then click on vehicle ratings at the top left. Then on the right side of the next screen, either choose the vehicle you are interested in, or even better, below that choose Ratings grouped by vehicle type/size:

Please also remember that in many accidents, size/weight wins.

We just had to get new wheels for our son. He is a small growing boy at only 6 ft 3 + inches tall and 230 + pounds. Many small vehicles had his knees touching the dash with the seat all the way back.

We ended up with a 2007 Tundra. Now he has safety, size, and weight on his side. It is much to large to go speeding around traffic, and still gets better gas mileage than his 2002 Explorer.

His mother and I go to sleep at night knowing we put him into the safest vehicle that he liked. He really wanted a much smaller go fast car. Something that could go zipping in and out of traffic and around curves.

Please consider safety when choosing your next tow vehicle.

Smile Toyota

Drive a 2007 Toyota Tacoma with 2.7 liter 4 cylinder and 4 speed automatic. It gets about 20 mpg on highway while towing, 27 mpg (doing 70) when not towing.

I guess I'll have to take a picture one day.

WHAT ?????? What is the hull weight on the 17 footers??? I know that you are having to shift those gears allot but with that kind of Mileage it does not really matter....... I will be going to hte coast this weekend and will keep her at 65 the whole way in 5th gear. I think that while pulling in 6th my Throttle Position is do deep that I would be better off running 500 rpm more and less TP.... JB

Smile Tow, Tow, Tow your boat, gently down the road...

Hi Boost,

The hull weight is 1,100lbs. Engine 228lbs. Full tank fuel 137lbs. Trailer (I'm not sure) think about 500lbs. That's 1,965lbs. I would estimate about 2,200lbs with other gear (anchor, lines, radio, gps, etc.)

For towing, I keep the truck in 3rd gear cause it drops from fourth when climbing hills anyway. That's what drops fuel economy while towing. At 65mph, the engine turns about 2,800 RPM in third gear. In fourth gear, the engine turns about 2,000 RPM.

The towing rating on the truck is 3,500lbs. so I'm well within limits. I've never had a problem pulling the boat from the ramp. So far, so good.

Is it a 4x4? I know that I always put mine in 4-low so that I save the clutch over time.... Great to hear that you have a econo towing machine that should last into the next century

Hi Boost,

2WD regular cab. I was concerned about wheel spin at the ramp since the truck rear is not limited slip or locking. So far, no slip.

Then you (and everybody) need to vote since the poll is not showing any Subaru votes as of yet
