I purchased a used Logic 150 used and put a used 60 hp Mariner motor I had on another boat and it worked great last season. I have the boat in the shop now and am considering buying a new motor for it. On the triumph page they sell the 150 with a 40, 50, or 60 hp motor. Will the 40 hp get a 150 up and planning with a couple of good sized fellows in it weighing say 225 lb each or should I look at a larger engine. I will be using the boat for fishing on inland lakes mostly. Thanks.

Gary

Gary,
All things being equal, I would go with the lightest 60hp engine you can hang on it... I do not feel though that a 150 with a 40hp filled with a few heavy weights (though could get on a plane if propped correct) would give you the performance you are use to having with your present 60.

So what is wrong with the present 60? Re-powering a hull that has a working engine (I assume it still runs) is usually not very cost effective in the long run unless you are going to be putting a lot of hours on that hull and are gaining a lot less fuel burn at the same time.

Putershark....I put a 1990 60 hp Mariner motor on a boat a few years years old that i got real cheap minus a motor...I had the motor on a 1967 Larson hull before this........the previous owner of the Logic put the motor it came with on a pontoon....he thought the Logic 150 too small. I like the Logic boat a lot but this Mariner motor is very difficult starting but if the shop can help me out there maybe I will keep it on there. I took the Mariner off the Larson and installed it on the Logic myself so that transfer was no problem and no cost.....Just bouncing off the blackboard here with ideas....thanks for responding.

I have a Triumph 150 Cool with a 40 hp 4 stroke Suzuki. Gets on plane fine (after I installed a hydrofoil) with two people weighing a total of 400 lbs+. I like mine fine except for the times when the water's smooth, then I could really use some extra horsepower to get where I'm going a little quicker. Hole shot is fine, but needs more top end. If I were doing it again, I would go (like Putershark said) with the lightest 60 hp you can put on and you'll definitely be happy .

Thanks clk219th for your input. Boat is still in the shop and I don't know whether it's worth saving the old 60 hp Mariner motor yet. The 60 hp on it is hard to start but runs good once it gets going. As of recently though it quit altogether so I wait to see now I guess.

I own a 150-CC and it came with a Yamaha 40 4s it's adequate by if I had it to do over I'd have gone with the 50.

But the type of fishing I do here in the north the 40 does work ok and the plus side of the 40 is that if I don't run it WFO I can get up to 8+ mpg which is great when you want to fish a lot and fuel is $3 a gallon.

I'll bet a 60 would make that little boat scoot right along as just with a 40 I can get a solid 30 mph out of mine.

Thanks for your responce Jan.........I heard from the shop today and they said my old 60 hp had great compression test and checked out good except a switchbox which they replaced and I am now back in business with this old 60 hp. I only had this combination of this old Mariner motor on this 150 fish boat out a few times last season and yes it pushed the boat around the lake at good speed....but not a lot faster than yours...it did 33 mph as i recall.....I thought that was great. The motor is heavy so when I first tried to plane out my wife freaked out at the bow rising but a couple seconds later we were up and planing and she mellowed out....she was not used to that action with this old 60 hp mariner on my older boat which was a 1967 runabout larson that needed a larger motor anyway. I guess I am back in business for this season maybe and am going to enjoy this plastic boat a lot......there are so many things about it I like even though it is small....which in it's self is something I like at this point. Take care

Gary

I've really been happy with mine, sure is easy to take care of and a lot of fun to drive and fish out of.

I catch some of those 10-15 foot rollers comming back in across the Humboldt Bay bar sometimes and it's like riding a big powered surf board, a total kick in the fanny.
