Navigation Lights

I have no power going to my navigation lights. In the manual it says that there is a 5 amp breaker. Where is this breaker and what to I need to do to solve my problem? All the other systems are working fine{bilge, areator etc.} Thanks for any help you may offer me!
Chris

Chris,
What size boat do you have? I have a 2004 170CC. The breaker for the nav. lights is in a rubber push tube under the light swith. It looks like a rubber top on an eye drop type bottle. The fuse is inside of the rubber nipple. You have to push in on it. If you squeeze the rubber nipple you can feel the fuse inside if it has popped out. I don't know if your set up is the same. Good luck!

John D.

I have a 2003 150 cc that I just purchased a week ago. The boat has only 10 hrs on it, most of that was demo. It has been idle for a while, I'm just going thru to make sure everything works fine. The navigation lights are the only problem I've found. Thanks for your input.

You may have already done this, if so just disregard. But....check the contacts in the receptical and on the light poles...they may have a little corrosion on them preventing contact. A little fine grit sandpaper should fix the problem. If they are good, check to see if power is getting to the receptical with a multimeter (or trouble shooting light, etc.). If no power, check to see if you have power coming to the switch. If no power to switch, check connection to the battery. This should narrow down where your problem is. I hope this helps.

Of course, you've already checked to see if the bulb(s) is/are blown, right? Hey, sometimes it's the easiest things that drive us nuts.

Chris,
No problem. If you have a multimeter (cheap ones for around $10.00 at any home improvement store) check to see if you have continuity (ohms) on both poles of the switch (you should have no continuity in "off" position and good continuity in "on" position). If not, you know it's in the switch. If the switch checks out, check continuity from the switch to the transformer (no continuity means tripped circuit breaker or blown fuze or loose wire.) If that checks out, then you have a short between the switch and the outlet. (Check that by checking continuity between switch and recepticals...no continuity means a break or loose conection somewhere between your test points.) I hope this helps.

Navigation Lights

Chakaman,

I have an '03 150 Cool. I had a problem with my nav. lights at one point a while back. On my boat there is a fuse (two prong like you'd find in a car fuse box) that comes directly off the battery in the battery compartment. It has two wires and is in a small black plastic case. I seem to remember that when I had trouble with my lights it was that fuse that was blown. Give it a look-see; it might be your problem.
