Unhappy swim platform

I recently tried to mount a factory swim platform on my 2005 150. What a disaster. Has any one out there done there own. I need help. I ended up with holes and a swim platform that is still sitting on my garage floor. What should I do? I already have sealed the holes with elastomeric. What fasteners? What hole sizes? etc!!!

From frustrated and unhandy!

I just installed a factory swim platform on my 150 CC. The dealer gave it to me will all the self-tapping screws, nuts and bolts and a tube of Rule elastomeric. I just lined it up where I wanted it, marked the screwholes, tapped a pilot hole in each hole on the gunnel and filled them with the Rule Sealant. On the transom, at the bottom of the brace, I drilled 1/4" holes and just put the bolts through and fastened them with the nuts. The nust he gave me had the plastic inserts so that they won't back off. It took less than a half hour to do. I also put some sealant around each stantion where it connects to the boat. it was a real simple thing to do.

I don't understand what you did wrong? Did you drill the holes in the right place or did you drill them too big?

Unhappy swim platform

My dealer did not provide me with the proper mounting hardware...I have 1/2" holes in my gunnel!! I will contact Triumph directly to get the proper hardware. What a nightmare. Thanks for your input. Also maybe I could get your dealers info and just get the proper parts there..I'm in Toronto on the other side of Lake Ontario.

Regards

I purchased my platform at Arney's Marina in Sodus Point, NY. They also gave me, free of charge, a bag of powdered Roplene. I think your best bet would be to fill those 1/2" holes and start over. You can fill them with either roplene or with Rule Elastomeric. If you use the powdered roplene you will have to heat it first to the melting point and then pour it into the holes. The holes in the gunnel should only be small tapping holes, then use self tapping screws to secure the platform to the gunnel.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

If your holes are in the proper position, you need to get 4 "Togglers" from somewhere like your dealer or WestMarine etc. Just like thru bolting into sheet rock except "Togglers" are stainless steel and can support a couple hundred lbs. Mount, trim off xs "Toggler" zips and seal them in well. Bolt the platform on, it really is simple with the right hardware.

Get yourself a plastic welder and weld those holes shut. See the threads on welding plastic in the tech talk forum. A 1/2" hole is too large to seal with elastomeric. Dick at Merrit Marine will sell you polyehtelene welding rod that matches the plastic of your boat, and welding is very easy to do.

Good luck,

Does anyone have a suggestion of an aftermarket (i.e. Cheaper) swim platform that will work with my 2000 17 ft logic? I can't see spending $300 to $400 for this from the factory. Also, has anyone installed one on a 17 ft boat and have any suggestions. Thanks
