This is a nice read also, the inventor of the Smart Tabs comments part way through.

tfink,

As I said before I have heard good things about the BMS plate. Smart tabs were a better choice for me because most of my problems were do to weight shifting, wandering, and porpoising at slower speeds in real shallow water (2-4ft). With your motor trimmed way up I do not believe a plate would help much. But the smart tabs work great at any depth. To answer your other question, NO you do not have to manually compress the tabs after each use. As longer as you install them properly you should never have to touch them at all. I was initially worried about that myself, but I have had nothing but a great experience with them.

jfine,

In regards to your 3/16" or 7/32" question I recommend the smallest bit you can get. The screws are self tapping so you want to drill a small starter hole and then fill it with some Rule. Coat your screw with Rule and hand tighten to avoid stripping. Good Luck.

The more I see and read the more interested I am in these smart tabs. The only other concern I have is if they will work on my 195 DC with a swim platform.

When I went out to the Nauticus website I noticed that they have a trolling version of smart tabs, that looks like it would be a great way to go. Pro Troller Series

Thanks for the tips, jfine, I'm looking forward to hearing your review.
