Deck screws poping up/out!!

I bought a 2005 150CC on 5/9 and have been fishing pretty steady since then.

Yesterday I noticed that two of the deck screws on either side of the console had poped up out of the deck a good 3/8" (Yes it was sloppy) and I tried to gently cinch them back down and it appears they have pulled through rather than unscrewed.

So as a temporary fix I pulled them out and applied some Rule elastomeric sealent and reinserted the screws.

I called the dealer and stuff like this is covered but has anyone else had this problem with thier boats?

Keep in mind I'm not hotdogging the boat out there and slamming through the chop, you don't do dumb stuff like that when you're 57 years old and have bad knees and a touchy back. lol

Screws Popping Out

Jan,

I think all of us have had that happen. Get a bag of power ropolene from your dealer, heat your screws up with a torch, stick them in your ropolene, which will cause some to melt. Then stick the hot screws with the new ropolene back in the holes. That should 'weld' it back and replace the plastic if it did pull threw. I have several that have pulled threw on my 01 210. not really a big deal at all. Your Rule may take care of these for you.

Mike

Mike, you posted a great reply to Jan from Humbolt. When you have a new boat and something goes wrong it is very easy to get excited. I know, because it has happened to me.

If Jan and others will just read your response and follow your advice, their blood pressure will just stay a lot lower.

While it did not happen with Jan, it is a learning experience with plastic boats not to tighten the screws to tight.

Again, thanks for your post.

alas Jan ,you have found the feature that all models have in common --the hdpe compound used in our boats doesn't hold screws tight under stress. fortunately, you have friends here that will help you thru this issue. i try to thru-bolt as many critical connections as i can. my boat looks like a patchwork quilt with all the access plates on it ,but i know the bolt and nut will be there. pe powder and the pvc welders with pe rods will repair the pulled out screws quite nicely and it is just part of our upkeep supplies much like wax and buffers are to fiberglass owners.
welcome to the family and as others have already said, "just ask it"
robert

Talking I never get excited...although I'm

just not sure I want to watch hardware fly out of my new boat on a rough day. lol

I figure that the toggle might be the way to go or the "Hot screw" fix (A "Hot screw" can fix a lot of things) or even seal the existing hole and sink a new one an inch or so away form the old hole and reinsert the screw.

Lots of different ways to skin this critter.

All in all it's a great little fishing boat and it's put quite a number of nice fat Chinook Salmon in the freezer already.

All you got to do is push that red button on the dash and it's a done deal.

You should ask wellcraft dave about stuff flying off on rough day. As I recall the entire center console came off of his 01 logic 210 and made for an interesting trip back to shore.

That's a rough day!

I can only imagine the conversation back at the boat dealership

That's the sort of stuff that give boat owners some (More) grey hair, a couple of years ago a guy I know was running out of Bodega bay as I recall and he hit a whale.

He was in a 24 foot rig with twin Honda outboards, he said that it was real early in the AM (As in dark) and they were moving out pretty good when all of a sudden BAM! They were seriously airborn and the whole transom was torn off the boat.

The boat was a mess but nobody was seriously hurt aside from some minor cuts and brusing and several sets of ruined underwear.

They were lucky, he says now he does go a lot slower when the visibility is poor as well.
