I almost opted for a larger engine when I bought the boat but didn't want a gas hog to feed. The 40 averages about 1.5 GPH out fooling around and averages about 2 GPH if I haul *** if you can call 25MPH that. Also it is very easy to launch, retrieve and tow behind a 2001 Pontiac Montana. And fits nicely in my garage. I couldn't find a better boat to fit my needs. We did get caught in a violent thunderstorm the last time out and had to make an emergency docking behind a vacant house for sale at there dock. The bilge pump kicked right in during the storm and keep it drained. The passengers got soaked. The Bimini top is not real protective in a thunderstorm. I almost bought a little C-Dory for protection in just such a case but didn't see any for sale here in Virginia so I got the Triumph, a great little boat.
I installed the Nauticus Automatic Smart Trim Tabs. Problem solved. No 150 should be with out them. I've been told they will be standard equipment on the 2008 model.

suggest you allign and drill the rear holes first. Drop in bolts to hold it steady and take an ice pick to mark the forward holes with scratched circles. You will have to drill the front holes at a slight angle on a 40 Yamaha due to engine.... but simply trying to use the template and pilot holes is difficult I found. good luck

I installed mine exactly as the 8 step instructions stated from Smart Tabs SX. I marked the mounting holes with a black magic marker then drilled the holes with a 7/32" drill bit. Chalked the holes with marine sealant and installed the screws. I had one problem and that was after I installed the Plate retractor kit on the starboard side it would not retract all the way up and that was because of the swim ladder and the only way to alleviate that would be to remove the swim ladder permanently and I am satisfied with it retracting partially because I want to keep the swim ladder attached to the boat. I am happy with the tabs and they work as promised and they are very easy to instal. I am not mechanically inclined or a do it your selfer, but ,if I can do it, anyone can do it.
PS I would have paid the dealer to do it,one half hour at $80 an hour, but my closest dealer is 80 miles away so rather than spending a day transporting the boat back and forth I took a chance and am quit proud of the job I did.
