Angry 150 CC observations

Bought a new 150CC w/ 50 HP Yamaha 2-stroke end of May. I have ben trying to sort through the various forum threads, but have issues spanning several. Your help requested!

1) Getting on plane. Takes probably 15 seconds to get the boat out of a bow-high wallow and into a plane. Once on plane I can do about 28 mph at 5200 rpm (one on board). This is the second prop; first one from the dealer clearly had too much pitch, couldn't get above 4800 rpm and it took forever - or never - to get on the step. Full down engine trim when accelerating helps of course but it still feels worse than any other boat I've used.

2) With two on board, boat is reasonable, as long as the person in front moves as far forward as possible when trying to get on the step. Three people - mediocre. Four people - fuggedaboudit. Just wallows around with the bow high. A very expensive, slow displacement cruiser.

3) Okay - finally planing and at speed - boat lists significantly to port. Feels like torque steer, but it's really a lot! Are trim tabs the only answer? I checked the trim tab on the motor and it is perfectly aligned along the long axis of the boat. Does it need an offset? Which direction?

4) Props - we have been using aluminum props, but have a lot of shallow water with oyster shells (Chincoteague Bay). Chews them up every couple of weeks. Anybody got views on stainless props? Worth filing the nicks on the aluminum props smooth?

This will help

I put one of these (The 300) on my 150CC with a 40 hp, it sure made a big difference with the low speed planing preformance, it also will get out of the hole quicker with less throttle effort.

I can run on calm water at 15-18 kts at a plane and it's best at 18-20 @ about 35-3600 rpm if memory serves.

I don't know if it knocks much off the top end preformance but with fuel here at three $$$ plus per gallon I'm rarely running at the top end anyway.

I highly recomend one.

Jan from Humboldt - the link as transmitted is incomplete. Can you give me a description of the item at Bass Pro Shops? We have one nearby.

Thanks for your help.

Try one of these props

http://www.propulse.se/english/index.html

And one of these plates

http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/...stabilizer.cfm

Till you get your hull and engine combo all dialed in which should not take very long

Enjoy!

I have one on my 210 CC come out of the hole and on plan instantly, they work well. If you hit something with a stainless steel prop it will not give, if you run shallow water or across the bay in mosquito land I would stay with aluminum. I file the nicks out of mine, and for around 60 bucks I can get my redone, filled in. I always carry a spare with me and cotter pins and nut.

please check my post elsewhere on the forum about trim issues i had.. I beleive if you contact triumph they may have some help for you.. My boat had identical problems but now after work was done on the craft by triumph it planes at 34mph with four adults on board. I had all the same issues you did. Contact Triumph and see what their response is in this situation. Their customer service number is on their website. my boat was identical size and power to yours except mine had the fourstroke outboard (which is heavier). ALSO I DID NOT HAVE TO ADD ANY TRIM TABS OR OUTBOARD PLANER TO THE BOAT FOR THE IMPROVEMENT.
