Tackle Locker Install
I got a Cabelas 4 drawer tackle locker and plan to install it in the console of my 2004 17CC. It will cut a fairly big hole (17"x15") on the front ot the console and I just want to verify that there will not be a structural issue. My plan is to backup the console witha a piece of pressure treated plywood to distribute the stress. I also expect to add some feet/legs to the bottom of the box to take up any load. Any other problems or issues I should be concerned about? Thanks.

I would not know about any clearance issues, but I would use starboard
http://www.kingplastic.com/Products/...ardFamily.aspx as a backing material instead of wood so you do not have any rotting issues. Please post pictures of your upgrade though, I have been thinking about more onboard tackle storage myself. Tight Lines! Dave |

You have 11 1/4" Depth to work with, We did not use any backing on the box we installed, we used fender washers on the back side. With the starbord face on the box the front panel was stronger after the install.

Thanks for the info. Fender washers are a whole lot easier than cutting a backer. I just wanted some assurance that the console would still be sound with that hole in the front.

Tackle locker intalled
Pictures were requested when I brought up this thread. Got it done today and posted the photos on the 170 modifications site. It will be a huge help. There was not much storage on a 170. Not sure why, but the photos seem to be in reverse order.
