I recently put a deposit on a 2006 170DC with a 60 hp yamaha and was wondering what length shaft I would need for the trolling motor. My options are 36", 42", and 48". I'll be fishing mostly freshwater lakes and rivers.
Thanks, Tom |

Trolling motor shaft length
I have a 170 Bass which I think is the same hull as yours. My trolling motor
has a 42inch shaft and I think it is marginal. In the fully extended length in the water it sometimes comes out of the water in rough water. I would go with the 48 inch shaft if I had a choice. Dave K ( Sarasota FL) |

I put a trolling motor on my 170CC about a year ago. I went with a 51" shaft because I thought the 48" would be cutting it close. In hindsight, the 48" would have worked also. Just remember that you can always adjust the depth with a longer shaft but you can't add on with a shorter one. Go with the 48" and you'll be O.K..
