New stainless steel bilge drain plugs

Dick I noticed that Triumph has changed the bilge drain plug assembly from plastic to stainless steel. Are these direct replacements? Does the transom hole have to be enlarged and do the screw holes match up? My existing plastic plugs always leak no matter what washer configuration I use so I purchased brass/bronze? replacements assemblies but I went to a boat show and noticed the new stainless drains. Before I install the brass ones, it would be nice to know if the stainless ones are a better fit. Do you stock them?

Dave, The SS plugs have a SS base that screws into the hull, much like the brass ones. You will, most likley, have to open the hole slightly to accommodate the base. Use plenty of Rule sealant on the base and off you go.

How about a brand, model, part # and size? I would imagine they are @1" plugs but fit in maybe a 1.5"OD coupling? Most all of us would like to improve over the plastic models.
That being said, the plastic ones or OK if you add a second washer and can reach the plug with a wrench and torque it down prior to launching....but the bunks make that more of a challenge.
One member made a wrench with a T' handle used to turn the water valve on/off at the meter of your house. That was innovative.
Thanks, Molar

Check out Putersharks's photo gallery and you will see that he has made this modification to his 190 Bay. Just why Triumph ever opted for leaky, plastic drain plugs baffles me. The dealer where I purchased my 190 told me they are an improved upgrade on all new models and that they are easily retrofitted to any older model. They can be ordered from any Triumph dealer. I plan to order a set for my boat before I put it back in the water this spring. The Sea-Dogs that came with the boat leak no matter the gasket combination or how tight I torque them down.

Thumbs up

Not only made of Stainless Steel, but self retaining (just open and drive off) unlike those plastic ones and the only way to go in my opinion.. Now I have one less thing to remember puting in my pocket (or need to reinstall) after I drive up the ramp some to dump all drains after pulling the boat out of the water

That's the stern you can see the trailer bunks.

I sure do like the looks of those stainless plugs, I guess one will need to ream out the old threads to about one inch before mounting the new plugs.

Thanks guys you know this means another trip to the boat store. Lol

What does a set cost?

To make the plastic plugs tight I killed 2 birds with one tool. Get a piece of 1" oak dowel at a lumber yard. Put a crome eyelit on one end after you round it off. Cut a notch in the other end to fit the plug end, round the edges, varnish, and attach to your keys it floats.
make it long and it can smack a unruley fish into submission also. 12" long works great on my 01 logic 186.

sorry could not see picture is dark on my monitor

My monitor shows pictures so dark i had to put it in photoshop to brighten the picture so i could see everything. I added the plug in the middle and i only got about a tea spoon worth of water out. Are the other two plugs more effective and are there any special measurements to use before you drill the holes. And did you drill the holes all the way through to the bilge area for these drains.
