Good deal on '05?

I am looking at purchasing a CC 170. There are not many dealers here in Washington State. I have found a new '05 that the dealer is willing to sell for $13,665 with 60 horse 4 stroke Yamaha, trailer, bow rails and swim ladder.

It seems like a pretty good deal. The '06 price is almost 17,000 out here. Would appreciate anyone's honest opinion on this deal.

Tragan4,

Hi there, my name is Sam and I'm a salesperson at a Triumph Dealership here in South Florida. I wanted to let you know that you are getting a great deal on that boat. Don't hesitate! Good Luck and let me know if I can help you in any way!

Thanks,

more info

I just found out that the boat does have 3 hours of demo time on it. It was in freshwater but I'm a worried they were putting the hammer down a bunch of times. The seller seems like a pretty responsible guy but who knows.

You can use this as a guide.... I just purchased a 2005 150CC with a 50HP Yamaha 2 stroke in Pennsylvania. It had 4.5 hours on it and I paid $8,700, including VHF radio, fish-finder and AM/FM/CD Radio.

Tragan4,
I have a 04 170CC with the same engine.I have a 5 year warranty on the engine and I doubt if I'll need it based on the reliability so far. See if you can get the same warranty, if so, I would not hesitate to buy it as long as there's not a trail of blue smoke when you "hammer down". My 2 cents.

Thanks for the responses. They have helped. It does come with a 6 year warranty on the engine. I'm going to pull the trigger on this deal.

Hi Tragam4. Did you end up buying the boat? I live in Central Oregon, but bought my 2004 170CC in Shelton, Washington. Paid about $1,000 more for a similarly equipped boat, so it looks like you got a great deal. I'm happy with the boat, but wouldn't rate the dealer very high.

Blacter I am assuming you bought your boat from Verles in shelton. I ordered a 06, 215 from then at the Seattle boat show and I also own a 17cc. You said that you wouldn't rate the dealer very highly. Can you elaborate a little more on your experience with them?

Thanks
Bob

Hey, Bob. Yes, it was Verles. My disappointment with them was that they packaged a 170CC with a motor (a Suzuki 60hp) that was too heavy. The result was a boat that took too long to get on plane and had excessive bow rise on the way. Foolishly, since I'd owned a Logic 170CC before, I bought that boat without a test ride and didn't discover the problem until my first outing as its owner. When I called to complain, they weren't very accommodating...just suggesting I add a hydrofoil.

As it turned out, the hydrofoil solution worked, but I felt they should have shown a bit more concern...at least apologize and offer to pay for the hydrofoil. They had made a big deal when I was shopping for the boat about how they test drove every one on their private lake nearby to dial in the perfect prop. The bow rise wasn't a subtle problem, so I'm pretty sure my boat never got tested.

This thread has some more detail:
How to offset weight of Suzuki 4-stroke?

The other issue I had with Verles is described in this thread:
Can't get these tiny black spots off my boat

I don't want to be too harsh. They seem to be nice enough people. My take is that they just weren't very smart about building customer loyalty.
