Transom Confusion

Thinking of repowering my 04 170 CC in a couple of years. Here's the problem the transom plate says max 75 horse/max 388 lbs. According to the dealer I bought the boat from they used to power them with a 90 horse prior to 03/04. Due to the weight of the 4 strokes they quit putting 90s on them. Here is were I'm scratching my head. The Yamaha 2 stroke 90 horse is listed at 261 lbs which is within the transom weight range but not horse power range. I would like to mount a 90 on her but I'm afraid it will invalidate the warranty. I wish Triumph would go with one or the other max 75 horse or max 388 lbs. It's confusing to say the least. Oh well I guess I'm just venting a little, I'll probably go with a 75 when the time comes. Still wouldn't have any other boat.

FOXBO,
You may want to check with your insurance Co. also. I've heard that if you exceed the max. horsepower rating on your boat that the ins. co. will not cover it. That may just be the liability part, I'm not sure.

Insurance companies okay with it, just confused by the double standard here. As I said it would be nice if Triumph would go with either horse power or weight not both.

FoxBo,
I have a 90 Yami on the back of my 2003. It came with it and it's really fast. a little too fast for me actually....No problem with Insurance.

Tight lines,
Frank
