The main reason I think that there are left over 170 Bass boats is plain and simple is because when they were new they were overpriced. There are 2004 170 Bass boats out there that the original MSRP was listed as 18,000 up to 19,000. There aren't many people that were going to pay that price for a "bass" boat with 75 hp. Considering that for that same price you could go far a bare bones glass or well equipped aluminum for comparable money.
That being said I myself am looking at a 2004. Because now the price is down where it should have been to begin with. Maybe if they didn't get overpriced so bad this model would be around today.
