Towing a Skier

Has anyone figured out a rig to tow a skier behind a 170cc. I have 2 children and they are dying because they can not tube or ski. Any help would be appreciated.

Dbell22,
I've towed both skier and tubes (at different time, of course ). I use a tow yoke like this one from Cabelas:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...344&hasJS=true

Just hook it to your transom tie down rings and your tow rope to the yoke and your set. Works great and floats so you don't have to worry about getting tangled in your prop. I hope this helped.

I don't even bother with the harness. I tied a shackle to the end of the the rope so it would be easy to remove when necessary. I second tieing to the tie down rings. I don't know that the cleats would sustain the pressures exerted by a skier.

DBell22,
You're welcome...that's what this site is for. I do not have any pictures as of yet but I'll try to remember to take some when I get it out again. They yoke is really very simple...a clip on each end of a rope with a sliding pulley in the middle. Pretty idiot proof...and it works very well.

Moretodaythanyesterday,
I'd really like to see some pictures of what you're talking about. Do you think you could find time to post a few??? Thanks.

Sorry cagrove, I've changed jobs within the last year and don't have digital photo capabilities any more. You can use about any thing that will give you quick release from the tie down eye. I'm sure there is a more sophistocated name for the devise I use but for lack of the proper name I refered to it as a "shackle". Mine is a brass clip with a spring loaded latch. Clip it on, unclip it off. Since I don't have a "tow eye" on the boat I'm forced to use the tie down point on the transom. If you've ever tried to untie a ski rope from the closed loop on the transom you'll understand the need for a more efficient means of tying it off to the transom.

I understand...we're basically using the same thing...you made yours and I bought mine. Thanks for the explanation.

Dbell22,

You can also get the item you need at most Walmarts, not sure if it will be any cheaper but it might get the kids sking and tubing sooner. Just explain to the sporting goods folks what you need if you can't find it.
