Dick, not quite true about the gunwales being wide enough. I mounted Sea Bould(?) stainless holders in the gunwales of my 2004 170 CC. The oval flange is why it worked. The square flange on the Perkos was a no go.
Tygh - I solved the water problem by making them self draining. I found a collection of nylon inserts at the hardware store that I finished off with a barbed nipple. pushed it into the bottom of the holders and sealed the daylights out of it. Ran a couple of feet of poly hose onto the barb. Figured out where to drill though above the little indent above the deck. Ran the hose through the just barely sized hole, sealed down the holders with plenty of Rule. Took another nylon barb, cut the hose just long enough and put it on. Pushed that into the hole and sealed it up with plenty of Rule. Took a couple of weekends working slowly to make sure I didn't cut somethinig wrong. Get a really long and stiff knife to cut out the foam in the gunwales. I didn't think to take pictures before I put it together. But it can be done on a 170! |

Fischer, Happy to see that yours worked, We have found that the distance between the inner and outer hull 6"below the gunwale is not wide enough to accept the botton of the rod holder. Rotomolding is not an exact science, some boats have more room than others. It will ruin your day if they don't go all the way down. Your way of draining is great!

Based on Dicks comments you may want to measure the wall. Sounds like I may have gotten lucky because it never occurred to me to measure. The inner and outer walls are <= 3/8" each. I can say that I had plenty of room though.
