170CC drainage

I recently purchased a 2004 170 cc and have two questions - Regarding draining of water from the floor - Near the back there are a series of small slits on both sides and I assumed these were to let water drain down into the bilge area. While hosing down, I noticed water would not go through these and upon closer inspection I noticed they are not punched all the way through. The water has to drain along the sides of the rear wall and is slow going out. Should these slots be drilled out? I can put my hand under them from the rear access and they are not above the gas tank so there is no danger of hitting it. Also it appears that if you store items under the console or in the rear port access there is a chance of things getting wet if on the bottom of the pile. Interested in how others have solved this problem - Stainless steel rack? Cargo net? I enjoy this site and appreciate anyones comments regarding the above questions -

Yes, those slits are drains. The slits in my 170 go all the way thru and handle most of the water and the rest drains thru the rear wall crack.

As to storage in the rear, I use either a small bucket or dry bag to store items. I have no problem with water and storage under the console.
