Prop Talk, what are you using?

I have a 2002 DF60 Suzuki 4-stroke engine on my 170cc, I trashed my prop and skeg on a rock. Replaced PROP with a 13.25 with a pitch of 17 and it doesn't seem to get the speed I am wanting. For those with this type of engine what are you using?

I have a Yamaha 75 four stroke, My prop is Yamaha Pro series 13 1/2 X 20 works well for us, I would try a 16 pitch or a 15 pitch, 17 inch pitch for a 60 is grabbing too much water and you won't get the rpm's up at WOT, your boat would have to weigh next to nothing for the engine to develop max rpm with a 17......... IMHO

Greetings All, I just picked up a 2003 170cc w/Yamaha 90 and I've got the same question what's the best prop for my setup. My boat currently has an AL 13 x19 and I'm only seeing about 4700 RPM nicely trimmed up @ about 38 mph and it just feels like it should go faster and be seeing higher RPM's. The Boat is in great shape only had 40 hrs on the clock when I picked her up. I had her out for about a 3hr run and used just about 6 gal which seemed pretty good to me as far as fuel comsumption goes kind of hard to say what my avg speed was I did some idling and some top end runs however I was getting around the whole time out. I quess I just don't know what to expect and I'm looking for some feedback

Hi Wildcard, i e-mailed you with different scenerios, We can fix this, don't worry!!! 38 mph doesn't seem right, closer to 50 would be more accurate, mine does, but I'll explain after your call...Dan

Wildcard, I doubt that you can do 50 no matter what prop you choose. We've had posts on this in the past, but you should be able to do 45. That said - how do you have a 2003 with a 90hp on it? Is it a Logic? Because the 17 is rated for 75hp max, and you risk getting fined for anything greater.

Great question, I weight 240 and when I let off the gas I get water of the transom. I could only imagine what a 90 would do!
