Special K,
I have a 2004 170CC with a 60hp Yamaha 4 stroke. I waned to get up on plane and run at a slower speed on a choppy day. Putershark suggested Bobs machine shop's stabilizer plate. I've seen the dolefins for years and never liked their looks or the fact that they are plastic and flex. I bought the stabilizer plate from Bob's last season. Installation was simple and the results are better than I expected. I can get up on plane faster and run slower, which was what I wanted. In addition it makes steering easier with less wandering at slow speeds. Price is less, installation easy, and out performs any dolefin on the market. In addition your boat does not look like it has a "whale tail" on it from the stern.

I think I'll call Bob's some time this week. After John's and Dave's endorsement how could I refuse. By the way, the wife and I went out today, the water was like glass. Caught 5 keeper trout lots of shorts, 15 or so black sea bass, and one Tarpon that I had for about 3 minutes until he through the hook. Man I love Florida!

fix bow rise

I fixed the bow rise handling problem with the Sting Ray.
The difference is night and day. Bow is down and a good increase in performance.

My 06 170 with 60 4stroke Yamaha has very little bow rise and planes quite quickly, pretty level by 15 mph and around 3300 rpm as I recall. My dealer installed a hydrofoil on the cavitation plate before I took possession of the boat. He said he added hydrofoils to all 170s to get them up on plane faster. So a hydrofoil might be a relatively cheap and easy solution to your problem.
