Hole in the bow?

has anyone ever seen this: I was looking at the underside of my bow and noticed a little hole, about the size of a pencil. it has smooth sides almost like it was drilled all the way into the foam, but the foam was level with the hull almost like it was a defect before the foam was installed! mind you ived owned the boat for 2 years and have never seen this but i have to be upside down to get the right angle...i filled it up with a small bit of rule but im really shook up! the boat cetainly does not perform as though it has water in the hull. anyone have any advice?
thanks,
will

Holy moly, is this the hole just below the D ring for the bow hook for trailering. If so and it's a 215, or maybe a 210, it's the drain for the anchor rode. You just plugged up your drain!

yesndeed,
If I remember correctly you have the 170CC, correct? There isn't any hole on my 2003 170CC in the area you mentioned...you may want to have your dealer check it out just to be sure. Any hole where you can see foam inside sounds like a defect of some sort. Let us know what you find out.

If your dealer is reachable I’d definitely have him address the situation, if it’s a defect it will be a warranty issue. If it turns out to be caused by something besides a defect I’d “weld “ it closed as opposed to Rule. Be sure to drain your hull! Can you get the existing hole to the lowest point on the boat? Bow downhill trailer tongue on the ground or something for a while or can you install a inner hull drain on your model? for a hole the size you describe I think I would use a soldering iron not a heat gun, the only two methods I’ve used. (I don’t have a plastic welder like some of the guys) the challenge is to melt the plastic deep enough into the hole to get full hull thickness. I’d try to work in layers out from the bottom of the hole. Any scrap plastic off your boat will do I save all my drill shavings and hole saw plugs, if your installing a drain there you go. Or you might find a raw edge inside the console or someplace not seen or structural to shave off enough plastic for your fix. In that spot at least you wont have to worry about making it look pretty that’s really the only tough part of filling a hole.
Good Luck
Victor
Also be sure you remove all the Rule so you don’t contaminate the “weld”

I would take the 'defect and warrenty' path before I tried to fix it myself. Sounds like it would be worth your while to put in an inner hull drain. I did on my 2004 170CC and it was no problem. There are plenty of instructions already posted on the process.

Yesndeed I heard about a 190 earlier this week that had been sold with some holes drilled into the hull that had not been repaired. It seems that there was a problem with water in the hull at some point and some one had drilled holes into the hull to allow the water to drain from the foam area then did not repair them. From what I understand the holes drilled to drain the hulls can be repaired with no problem. There is a possibilty of the hole you are talking about came from something similar since you said it appeared to be drilled. I suggest taking it to a dealer (if possible) and let him check on it for you. After all it has a lifetime warranty.

Fischer53,
Could you post a picture or two of your drain...any problem area to avoid on the 170CC? Thanks in advance.
