You might have a look at the HP rating vs. the engine weight. In the Yamaha 'F' (four stroke) line, the 50 and 60 HP engines both weigh 237 lb.
So, seems like you'd definitely want the higher power. On the other hand, if you go up to the 75 HP version, the engine weighs 369 lb. That extra power comes at a price, in weight and of course $$. Out here in Kalifornia, the four stroke is the only practical choice in the Yamaha line at present. And I consider the F60hp to be a very reasonable compromise between power/weight/economy. In my 170DC, going WOT (wide open throttle) with three adults in the boat, the speedometer (not GPS) showed 34mph on somewhat choppy water. Fast enough for me, but I've never been much of a faster is always better dude. Fast enough is good enough.

It will be fine as long as youre not loaded up near max capacity. Its not going to be a speed boat in any case. Comfortable cruise with 4 aboard, trolling motor and battery plus other accessories is 25 mph at about 4200 rpm with my 60 hp Yamaha 4. WOT with 2 aboard, Ive seen 34 mph indicated. Most days on the Chesapeake Bay, 20 to 25 mph makes a lot more sense anyway.
