wiring question, anybody care to peek under their console?
I have a 2002 170DC w/F60 Yamaha. Bought it this past Memorial Day weekend as a "new" closeout from a dealer that discontinued the line a couple years back. Anyway, it has the Yamaha digital gauges, and all of them seem to work except the fuel gauge.
The verticle bars are always at max, even when I've used 1/3 of the tank -- the lowest I've run it down so far. To the point: Peeking under the console with the gauges, I see a bunch of wires of course. However, there's a blue wire with a male end not connected at its terminus, and a pair of yellow wires that are routed inside a female connector (that clear, rubbery plastic sorta thing), but nothing is plugged into the female end. So, is this normal, or might I have found why my fuel gauge is inoperative? Anybody care to have a peek inside their own console with such gauges and tell me if you see a similar situation? Thanks in advance for any help! |

Nate,
This is Chad from Merritt Marine. Sounds like you have a fuel sending unit that has gone bad. The best way to check this problem is to disconnect the fuel sending unit wire, you'll have two there, one ground (black) and one fuel sending unit wire (pink)(the wire in the center). If the fuel gauge now reads zero, then your fuel sending unit is bad, no problem, we have plenty in stock and not expensive. If nothing happens when you disconnect then your digital gauge is bad, bigger problem because more expensive . Let me know. Chad |

Feejer, what are DIP switches? And where do I find them?
Also, did you see my reply to your thread about buying that used Triumph with the bimini?
I'd be interested in buying the bimini for my rig, so let me know.

Hey Nate, yes I did see your message. Its yours if I buy the boat. Dip switches are tiny toggle switches. I'm not sure what kind of gauge you have, but you should have some switches on the BACK of the gauge. Go to Yamaha's web site and see if they have a manual in PDF form you can check out
