17 CC Self Bailing- Water in the Hull

Are the 17 models self bailing? If not where does the water on the deck go to, the bilige? I guess I should have asked this question a while back. I just assumed it was a self bailing boat. I really like the idea of the plastic beachable hull but over the last week or so I've been reading about problems with water in the hull. A few of the posters even went as far as adding a second and third drain to the transom, whats that about? Is this REALLY a problem or is it getting over blown

The 170CC in not self bailing and all water from the deck goes into the bilge. The bilge pump takes care of it from there. The water intrusion problem into the inner hull has not been an issue with the 170CC. Some (not all) of the larger models have had problems with water getting into the inner hull. Even that has been a pretty painless fix with an additional drain installed. I hope this answered your questions.

Feejer, as a new owner of a 170, please allow me to chime in.

The water that comes into your boat -- from the waves, spray, rain, or when you wash it down inside -- goes through the scuppers and into the bilge. If you lift up the aft seat hatches, you'll see this water and the drain holes through which it then goes to get to the bilge area.

If you have the drain plugs out of the boat -- as you would on land when you're washing the boat down -- the water of course comes pouring out. If you leave the plugs in, the bilge pump (500 gph, Rule brand in mine) will remove the water, via a through-hull fitting on the far left side of the upper transom, i.e. above water line. You also have two transom drains above water line on either side of the engine bowl.

As to the water in your bait well, it would enter via the (threaded) through-hull fitting specifically for it. When you flip on the aerator switch, it draws water in. The baitwell drain through-hull fitting is slightly below and to the left of the intake. Very near your right-side main drain.

In short, your boat has three drains below water line, one of which can stay unplugged (i.e. the baitwell drain), and three drains above water line.
