I have a24 volt motorguide, long shaft with stomp buttons& 71lb thrust, telescoping big foot tiller.when batteries are charged i can hold my own against 20mph wind if necessary. I started with 12 volt system, not good in stiff Texas south wind.

ciprini

you did not say whether you had 12 or24 volt system.Mine is set up is with 1 battery under center console,1 in each storage compartment on either side of outboard, with an on-board charger. The deep cyle batteries are dedicated to the trolling motor only. cranking baterry is for cranking & acces. only thanks Gordon aka chum-king

You definately want to have a separate battery for your trolling motor. Use a deep cycle for the trolling motor and keep the cranking battery for your main engine. When cranking your engine, it requires a lot of amps right from the start. Your starting battery should have a pretty full charge all of the time and is made to be maintained by your alternator. Your deep cycle delivers your amps over a longer period of time and is made to be drained and recharged many times without damage. The last thing you need is to shut off your main engine, use the trolling motor and then find out you don't have enough amps to get your main engine started again. Tight lines.

trolling motor problem

here goes,

i finally have a trolling motor. now to install it. on my 2006 170cc, there is a trolling motor plug on the front deck. my question is, where does it lead to? how is it connected to the battery. i am going to install a seperate battery (deep cycle), but i want to wire it into my motor and cranking battery so it can charge automatically. is this possible? i keep hoping to find a place to connect the deep cylce, which is already pre-wired from the nice folks at triumph, but no luck.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cipriani, Just Wanted To Congrats You On The New Trolling Motor! The First And For Most. Do Yourself A Favor That You Will Write Later And Thank Me For Is Spend The Money Right Now And Buy The Quick Disconnect Plate For Your Trolling Motor Before You Drill Holes In The Hull. It Makes It So Easy To Clean, Out For Repair On The Trolling Motor Etc. I've Had My Hand Stuck In The Side Of This Boat A Dozen Times Before I Put One On Mine. There Is Place For A Padlock To Secure It To The Boat. Also, If You Want To Up Grade To A Different Trolling Motor Later No New Holes In The Hull To Worry About. Second, The Wires From Your Front Panel Should Run Back To Under Your Center Console In A Black Plastic Pipe (looks Like A Gas Line) I Had To Unbolt My Center Console From The Floor To Find Mine. Which Is No Big Deal Just A Few Screws. At The Same Time I Made My Factory Cut Out A Little Smoother So When You Stick Your Hand In There Is No More Sharp Edges And A Little More Room Is Always Better. There Is Few Links/pictures Where Other Members Have Fit Two Deep Cycle Batts In The Center Console. Just Look Around They Did A Real Nice Job. Third, I Used A Batt Shut Off Switch In My Rear Batt Compartment Which Has Three Or Four Postions (off,#1,#2 And Both) This Will Let You Have Three Batts. But, If Used Right You Will Always Have A Fresh One For Your Outoard To Crank Up And Get You Home. If You Need Any Help Or Have Any Questions Send Me An E-mail And I Will Give You A Phone Number So We Can Talk Direct. Hope This Helps!

Suchfun!!!
