Ordering a 17CC WITHOUT a high speed pickup

Some of you might sound this is nuts but.... I would like to order a 17CC without a high speed pickup. I have never used them in the past, don't care if it will effect the resale value and to me its just one more hole in the boat. I do intend to use the baitwell for food and drinks, a bag or 2 of ice and I'm set. I'm guessing it drains to the bilge. If I order a boat from a dealer do you think this can be done???

Thanks

Mr Feejer,

If you are talking about a high speed pickup for your livewell, I have a 2005 17CC and I don't have one. If I want to put water in my live well I have a pump that I turn on. I do what you want to do, use it for storage and don't hit the switch on the dash to keep it dry.

Thats correct, I don't need any water going to the live well. Never used it , never will.

Feejer,
The livewell has a separate drain that flows out the back of the boat.It does not drain in the bilge. If you can't get a 170 without a pick up you can always drain the melted ice water off your food, etc. The intake valve has a shut off on it. Close it and you should have no water flowing to the livewell.

Feeger, If you keep the bait well, overboard (raw) water supply, you can use the pump as a cleaning aid to keep the deck clean of fish blood, spilled soda and other materials before they dry and are harder to remove. Just slip some tygon tubing over the suply pipe. The water used for cleaning will drain back to the bilge and then pumped out.

Also if you keep baitwell pump it would aid in resale when it is time to get another boat.

Just my $.02. Bob

I'm not too worried about resale value. This will be my 3rd and last boat for a while. One of the reasons I do not want a highspeed pickup is because I had a problem with the last one. I'm riding along a 20mph or so and I hit something. The pickup was ripped out of the hull somehow. You would be amazed at how much water can enter a boat thru a 4x5 inch hole. To me one less hole in the bottom of the boat is good. I will be using the live well for food storage only. My plan is to build a storage box where the 72qt cooler fits under the swingback seat. My brother is a cabinet maker and I think will use teak for the box.

feejer, there is no high speed pick up on a 170cc, it will only pick up at very low speeds or at rest, It is located on the transom on the starboard side about 4 inches above the chine. It will not affect the baitwell storage anyway if it's not turned on by a switch on the helm. I put a tee in my pump to be able to use the pump as raw water washdown, ( see my photo gallery) There are no protrusion or holes in the boat below the water line on a 170cc unless somebody other than the factory put it there. Hope this eases your mind. Dan
