Transom saver styles/requirements

Don't have my machine yet, but since I am driving 9 hours to test and then returning with it in tow (pending first mate approval) I want to make sure everything is protected for the road. It has a F60 Yamaha. I wanted to know the length of transom saver to purchase. Also, has any one tried the spring loaded transom saver from Swivel Eze. I don't know if it is even suitable for this motor/trailer/boat combo, but since I will be putting a lot of road miles on the machine, I wanted to have the best possible trailering gear.

Thanks in advance

I use the spring loaded Swivel Eze since 2002 and works great.

I have the 170CC.I've been using the adjustable transom saver from wally world (WalMart) for three seasons. $19.95 Can't beat the price. Fits on the center brace on the bottom of the trailer like it was made for it.

Thanks guys!!

Fridays, What motor do you run and what length is it set at? (assuming you don't have it in storage somewhere) I may make one since I have access to lots of SS scrap and can use or shop equipment after hours.

Molar, Does it actually bounce some when you hit potholes etc?

Thanks again

Transom Savers

The dealer I talked to at the boat show told me you didn't need one with the 170 boats!

STL170,

Have you considered the m-ywedge transom saver? It's a lot less cumbersome to use. Just lift the motor, place it on the piston, then lower the motor. Here's the url if your interested. http://www.m-ywedge.com/

Like DeerHunter, we also strongly recommend the m-ywedge transom saver. We never leave home without it being in place. Easy to use and easy to store. We have in excess of 1,500 miles on our trailer and NO Problems.

STL170,
I have the same motor you have F60 Yamaha. The "My Wedge" will not fit our motor because the tilt piston does not have an open space to slide the wedge on it. Got to Wally World and look at their transom saver. It's real simple. Buy it and take it to your shop and make one like it.It has an adjustable bar. I think mine is on the second bolt hole. Then take it back to WalMart and get a refund. You will not hurt it by looking at it. Use tie down straps from the transom eye bolts to the trailer. Strap it down tight so the boat will not bounce up off of the trailer if you happen to hit a large pot hole. You'll be good to go. I use my transom saver everytime I trailer my 170CC. I have not had a single problem with it, not even a loose screw. I've got 397 hours on the boat/motor. Good Luck.

STL170,
I just went to the URL from Deerhunter's post and the universal M-YWedge will fit our motor. You may want to purchase that. I'm going to look into it. It's probably very easy to slip on and go. Sorry I missed that.

Many thanks everyone for the feedback. I like the simplicity of the m-y wedge for taking load off the hydraulics. It doesn't do anything for the transom and even though it is a small motor, I want to do everything possible to help with longevity. We conservatively put 3500 miles a season on our trailer we are not blessed with the greatest roads. I am thinking a combination of m-y wedge and standard transom saver (transfer load to trailer through urethane bumper) is in my future. Wal-Mart it is for inspiration.

What works great for many, I will go beyond (I can't help myself). Must be the nerd/geek/engineer in me. For towing Waverunners, I bought a 10K rated Alumistinger drawbar so I could bore out the pin hole and insert a urethane absorber around the 5/8" pin. All my trailer attachment points are stainless eyebolts. As soon as I get the trailer home, I will convert it to LED and pull all new wires wrapped in fiberglass sleeving.

Told you I was nuts!!

Thanks again everyone for the knowledge.
