stringger bump on the 170's ?????
When I went to purchase my 170cc I noticed that all the 170's in stock 3cc & 3dc all had a slight bump on the left side of the hull directly under were the fish boxes start. The sales clerk said that all the 170's have this bump. He explained that these are common and not defected. It is the way the roplene hardens around the stringers. He contacted triumph and he says that they told him all this and that the bump may vary from hull to hull. Some more pronounced than others.
Anyone out there have knowledge of this? And, does you 170's have this bump on the left side, middle hull under the fish boxes? Again this is visible from the outside and can be seen by looking under the front left side. |

Funny you should mention this. I have a 170 bass model year 2004. All the 170 models have the same hull.... I think. My boat has a pronounced bump on the port side ( left side) of the hull below the water line. All I can say is that the port side and the starboard side do look different. This bump does not affect the performance at all... at least I dont notice it. I thought I was the only one with this bump! It would be nice if Dick would comment on this since he represents a reputable dealer. The area of the bump does feel real solid and since it didnt affect performance I choose to ignore it.... something I am doing more and more as I age! Also my dealer went out of business and I was going to ask about it if I ever had to take the boat to another dealer for service.

Please, more feedback from 170's owners will provide us all with the normalization of this bump. many thought they were the only ones. It is apparent that my sale rep was right. this is a normal feature. again he stressed that it in no way effects preformance. so please leave comments....thanks

Mondo80,
I also noticed this when I went to pick up my 170DC and was told the same thing, that it is a kiss off point, not a defect. I had to look hard to see it so it's obviously very small. I have not noticed any adverse affects from this at all. Like you I looked at the rest of the 170's the dealer had and it was on all of them so I stopped worrying about it.

Interesting. I just purchased a 2007 170CC and had just gotten it home. Of course I was taking pictures of "my new toy" and also noticed the irregularity on the port hull. I immediately called the marina where I purchased the boat. He told me to bring it back and he would take a look at it. He wasn't immediately available, so I went outside and looked at all the other 170 DC's and CC's. Sure enough, everyone had the same bump (irregularity). When the sales person arrived, I was already appeased, but he explained that this was a result of construction and would in no way affect performance.

I have a 2004 17' CC and it also has the 'bump'. I thought it happened after I purchased the boat but it more than likely was there from the beginning. Good to hear that it should not be a problem.

I have a 2006 cc 17ft. and also hve the bump on thr left side. I've wondered if this smoothed out once the boat was in the water. So I swam buy and ran my hand over the spot and it is not as pronounced. The haul goes to it's natural shape when afloat.
