Electronics Installation

I just brought my new/used 2005 170cc home yesterday. Can't wait to take it out for the first time. I took my first look into installing a fish finder myself because the dealer wants $225.00 and is there anyone that has installed their own cables thru the access provided and if yes did they make it out of the job sane and healthy.
Thanks

I have a 191 and did it myself. It was not hard. You should have some guide strings from the back of your boat to your cc. Tie your wire to the string and pull, I would tie a second string along with the wire so you have a spare string. You will need to decide how and where you want to mount your transducer. Ask another 170cc owner to send you some pics. It should take about 2 hours tops. Good luck.

Electronics Installation

I just finished my GPS/SOUNDER this afternoon, the hardest part was finding the string you'll see everyone talkng about, then fishing the transducer cable back through the conduit. I have a 170 DC, same hull as the CC, so should be fairly similar.

I have a 2006 170cc and installed my gps/sounder. I didn't find the conduit, {didn't look that hard}. All I did was fish a line from the back to ths cc using a flexable tent pole. Then I pulled the wires through. I left the line in just incase I need it again. It was pretty straight foward. I also put a power line in so I could hook up a fuse box inside the cc.

Hello Jbracle, I installed all my electronics, which is quite extensive for a small boat. Make life easy on yourself and go to Home Depot and buy a couple pieces of "smurf pipe" it's light blue convoluted pipe for electrical apps in the home, very very cheap and watertight. Fish it thru the cavity in the console with some string line taped to each end. Pull all your different wiring needs thru these. Save the one for your transducer in the factory installed pvc pipe, it' a little larger in diameter and will acoomodate the thicker cable and plug end easier. The factory spare chase pipe is in the cut out under thew console, you have to reach in there and find it and pull it up thru the cut out hole. You can also peek at our picture gallery and see how we did our electronics, we made and installed everything ourselves. (FirstMate and I)
Hope this helps.....Dan

Pulling wires through your boat is made much easier with the help of a "fish tape." You can find these at any electrical supply store, home depot or Lowe's. Trust me, you need one of these.
