Battery Mounting

What have you guys done to keep the battery from flopping around in the aft compartment of the 170? At least in my 170CC, the battery can't sit flat, and the strap isn't strong enough to keep it in place.

Thanks.

I also had boxes that strapped down. They are about as useful as you-know-what on a bull. The fact that the tie downs are plastic makes them even less than worthless in trying to hold down a 40 pound battery. The plastic ties under my console broke the first year I owned my boat. Later I just tossed the battery boxes. What use are they in a plastic boat anyway? The only thing they do is hold water when you forget to put in your bilge plugs.

Triumph is too cheap to put in a proper floor to the battery compartment and decent tie downs that can stand up to the stress of a bouncing battery. Maybe you should complain to them about their crappy design.

Your opinion is noted woodNfish. Got any positive information or solutions to share? What would be a "proper floor"?

A proper floor would be flat. My battery compartment floor is the bilge. My battery is sitting on top of one of the bilge box beams that runs the length of the boat. The beam is not in the center of the compartment and the battery sits crooked on top of it.

I have though about getting a plastic cutting board to use as a floor but haven't figured out how to make sturdy supports to hold it in place.

Also blacter, it isn't that the strap isn't strong enough to keep it in place, it is that the strap is attached to that beam and the battery cannot sit level so it just bounces around no matter what you do with it the way it is.

There are some posts in some of these forums that show what people have done to add floors to some of the compartments. You can try searching for them to see if that is of any help. Also, when you replace the tiedowns for the strap you should use aluminum or stainless steel. Plastic tie downs can't take the stress.

I am forwarding your post to Triumph so they know that the battery compartment is an issue. Thanks!
