Smile New Triumph owner w/ questions

We just bought a new "non-current" 2003 170DC. It's never been in the water and looks brand new. Unfortunately, I didn't think such a web site existed for Triumph boat owners ....I take it as a positive sign!

It didn't come with all the options (bimini top, trailer was about it). I was wondering if it's possible to purchase & install a swim platform and side rails. The boat doesn't appear to have changed much in the last 3 years (but I'm no expert).

Any feedback/advice would be most welcomed!

I know others have installed a swim platform. I am unsure of the rails though. I dont know if they are achored into molded in screw plates or not. If so and you dont have the anchor points in your gunnel I am not sure how you would securely mount it. But heck I own a 210cc. I am sure one of the folks that own a 170 would be more knowledgable than I on the matter.

170 rails and swim platform

Sure, installing these items is easy. See your local Triumph Dealer for the parts.
They can install or if you are a handy type, it is easy to do.

I have a 170CC and have had all the accessaries installed. they are easy to install and as firm as one would hope. You can do it your self as long as you heat the screws and dip them in the plastic powder (sorry forgot the name) to weld the screws in place. Also, try and call triumph, the number is at the front of the owners manual.

Elastomeric (sp)

Elastomeric is what you use to put on screws when putting accessories on the triumph products. tighten till firm, avoid dogging them down as you will strip the threads.

Thanks Len,

Is "Elastomeric" the name of the plastic powder?

When you say "avoid dogging them down" do you mean don't over tighten?

Cheers

RULE Elastomeric is the sealant used for any screws, etc. that penetrate the hull. You can see it here:
https://www.merrittmarine.com/store/...uct_detail&p=8

If you strip any screws when attaching to the hull you can also use Roplene Powder to reseat the screws. Heat up the screw then dip it in the powder then immediately insert the screw in the hole. As it cools it forms a tight seal. I think you can purchase Roplene powder from Merritt Marine by the bag. You may also be able to purchase it from your local Triumph Dealer.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the boat. I have a 2006 170DC that you can see pictures of under member galleries (dkaraluz). I just added the handrails that Crimar30 got on hist boat (a 2007 170DC). I had them shipped to FL from NC. let us know when you get the boat into the water. Have Fun!
