transom scuppers

I have a 06 170 with a lot of water collecting in the transom well just in front of the motor. The scuppers probably have a clog that needs to be removed, however, I am not sure how to go about doing this. I would like to get rid of the standing water that forms in the back of the boat, but i don't want to break any seals or cause other problems by forcing anything down the drain. Any suggestions or comments would be more than welcome.

Thanks,
CJ413

I have a 2006 170CC also. I know on mine I always have water that sits in it. My dealer told me it will always be there because the drain holes sit up a little higher than the bottom. I don't think they are scuppers. Those are the drain plug holes. They do not sit very low in the hull. By design a little bit of water will always be in the bottom. I can see the water when I open up the battery compartment hatch. With me living in the south I don't have to worry about freezing water in the winter. I chatted with folks and my dealer told me to use a wet/dry vac to suck up the water, and give it a general clean-up. With you living in virginia I can imagine water left there can freeze and give you problems during the winter months. Try a Wet/Dry Vac to soak it up for cleaning or especially during winter. Any water that freezes in there would possably do some damage. I used to live in Alaska and North Dakota and freezing water in a hull can wreak havoc. I believe triumphs are a little tougher but be safe and winterize by removing the water. During the warmer months it won't hurt nothing. Just Vac it out every now and then, to clean any sediment that may clog the bilge.

Catfish,
Thanks very much for the info. Yup, they are drains and sometime since my last post they managed to unclog themselves. I guess that "if it ain't broke don't fix it" would apply. thanks again!

I noticed that my scuppers were not draining this weekend and realized that this had never happened before. After working on it for a little while I realized that I had the livewell plugged up. I unplugged it and the water from the transom ran to the livewell. The highspeed pick up must be connected to the scuppers.
