2007 - 170 CC tie downs and transom saver

I have the swim platform option installed and it is almost impossible to get the tie down strap attached to the tie down hook on the boat. The swim platform is in the way. Right now I am attaching the hook to a strap I have attached to the tie down hook. I also have no good place to attach the strap to the trailer. The hooks get stuck in the small holes that are in the trailer.

I also bought a transom saver and wondered what type people were using. I purchased the "pin" type but prefer the ease of use with the "over the roller" type. I cannot find a roller with a single anchor bolt and am hesitant to drill into my new trailer.

Any insight on what you guys are using on your rigs would be appreciated. Thanks.

jmuduke, may I please suggest you so a "SEARCH" on "transom saver". There have been a number of postings on the subject. I like "m-ywedge" for our boat. Their web site is http://m-ywedge.com/

Hope this helps.

jmuduke,
I also have a swim platform on my 170CC. The only way I can get the tiedown to work is to fold it into the locked position and thread it between the swim platform and the transom. Once the locking lever is past the swim platform, I can then release it and hook it to the boat and trailer. If yours doesn't fit you might consider shaving a little off the inside of the platform. Or maybe you can unscrew it from its frame and move it a little bit away from the transom to give you some room. Just a couple of ideas. Good luck.

I had a similiar problem. I solved it by putting two eye bolts on either side of the trailer and use one single strap over the back of the boat. Has worked great for two years. The boat doesn't move off the trailer.

I also have a 170cc and have had no troubles using tie downs behind my swim platform. Before altering your boat I would suggest looking into another brand of tie down that uses hooks that will easily fit between the transom and the platform. I bought mine at walmart. they were inexpensive and easily fit behind the platform.

I'm sure it's better if you run the strap directly from the eye hook on the boat to the trailer, but on my 170 I just run the strap around the swim platform.
When I strap it on it does put a bit of pressure on the swim platform, but it hasn't done any damage in four years.
I figure if the swim platform is designed to hold a 200 pound person, it can handle a bit of lateral pressure.

I have ratchet straps with coated hooks that fit between the platform and the transom. I have a set of the urethane protectors that go between the ratchet and the transom. They are installed upside down with the ratchet ending up right at the bottom edge of the transom. They fit in the existing holes just fine.

I use the shock-eze transom saver. I use the over-the-roller end. A polyurethane bungee will hook in one of the holes in the bunk support, one wrap around the saver rod and hook into the bunk support on the other side. Keeps the saver centered and allows the easy to use roller type end.

Enjoy!
