bilge switch

Just put a check in the mail for my new 05 170cc up here in NJ. Was suggested I have the dealer change the switch so the pump won't keep going on every couple minutes. This puppy will not be in the water but on a trailer all the time. Any ideas for this new boater?

My 01 logic has a two position switch - off and the regular auto. I thought that the new models had the same type. When mine sits on the trailer it is in the off position and I also pull the drain plugs. I have forgotten to put it into the off position a few times and there was no problem even though it does cycle on/off often.

It's not the switch

The bilge pump has a separate +12v conductor. If you don't disconnect it, changing the switch won't accomplish anything. Check out

My 17 sits on the trailer also. I installed a battery cutoff switch in the space with the battery. Quick and easy and the pump does not cycle when its off. I like the auto switch on the pump. I do not have to remember to check and see if I am flooding!

I installed a master cut off switch next to the bilge switch. No wire cutting or spicing needed to be done to the factory wiring. I used my meter to test all wires to and from the bilge to see how it recieved power. After testing, I found that all I had to do was to install an "on/off" toggle switch next to the bilge pump switch. I unpluged the wire coming off of the circuit breaker (brown w/ red stripe) and plugged it onto the "on" side of the new toggle switch. Then I cut a new piece of wire to length and plugged one side onto the circuit breaker (where I removed the Brown w/ red stripe wire) and plugged the other side onto the "off" side of the new toggle switch. Now when the boat is sitting on the trailer under the carport, I can flip the switch to cut power to the bilge pump. Easy to do and it works great. Be sure to always check your wiring with a meter before making alterations. You never know if all boats are wired up the same!

It took forever, but I finally got a picture posted of my battery cutoff switch. Got the switch at Boaters World, physically smallest one they had. Just clears teh battery and case when everything is together. I like it because I know there is no power going anywhere when its off. Also posted some other pictures of the mods I have made on my boat to give you some ideas.
