Here's the picture from Cajunman930's photo gallery showing the fuel tank.

Thanks Cajunman!

Fuel tank

Have owned my '02 170 CC since purchased new. Thought I knew a lot about this boat as I do a lot of the maintenance as the need occurs.

Had no idea the fuel tank was formed as the photo shows.

Continue to value this web site as time goes by...

Fuel Tank modification

Good Photo. I was wondering if you could put in a different gas tank to free up space under the rear deck/splash board, i.e. put a tank shaped the same as the lower half on the starboard side and remove the top half of the existing tank? It seems like there is a lot of wasted space under the deck. Thanks for any suggestions. Owner of 2007 170CC. I grew up on a 16 foot whaler, but my triumph is just as safe with a smoother ride.

I doubt you could do that kind of modification without it being very expensive...not saying it couldn't be done but what price are you willing to pay for that extra space? I'm no engineer (I blow stuff up for a living) but it seems to me that the tank is shaped that way to offset the weight of the battery on the other side. It's possible you would run into balance issues by changing the tank configurations. Just my 1/50th of a dollar.

Thanks. I'm a Combat Engineer with the Army so I understand. I don't believe the cost would be too bad, but you may be right about the balance issue. A point I didn''t even consider. I'll give it another year to see if I really need the space.

Thanks for the great info on the fuel tank! Jane & I just retiurned from Vermont where we tested the 170CC for 10 days on Lake Bomoseen. Due to it's north/south orientation, the lake can get pretty rough & nasty in north or south winds. I had plenty of opportunity to test in all sorts of wind conditions. THe boat performed quite nicely, particularly in a nasty chop. I can describe it as kind in nasty & sloppy water & pure pleasure in flat calm to light chop. It fishes well with the trolling motor & is surprisingly stable considering the relatively narrow beam. I expect we'll own & enjoy this one for a long time. Here's a pic of her at the dock.

NCangler,
Could you shoot a post to the factory to check if all the 170 models have the same style of gas tank? Thanks in advance.

Yes it is under the floor

Big dope me drilled ahole in floor ,and put a hole in the tank. It cost me 250. bucks for the tank. I had to take off the engine, take off the splashwell and peel up the floorboards up to the center console. YES THE TANK IS UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS!!!!!!! Hard lesson learned. PIRATE PETE

I checked with the factory and they said that "Both gas tanks are the same. 21 gallons."
