installing electronics

Got a price to install a 150.00 Humminbird fishfinder on my soon to get 05 170CC. It was the same I paid, 150.00, yikes. Now i'm afraid to ask about a compass. I did the finder on my 98 Logic so will do the new one but not sure of electric hook up. Is the new yacht have a fuse board to go to? Also can the compass wire be spliced to the running lights?
Thanks for any help.

My '04 17CC did not have a fuse block. I ran a tinned red and black 14 guage from the battery to the console. There is a piece of black PVC to use as a conduit from the bilge and under the floor to the console. I fused it at the battery

I also ran the two wires directly to the battery on my Logic. Perhaps the new one will be the same way too. Do you think I should splice the wire from the compass to the running lights this way it will come on the same time, not that I expect to be out after dark! Not this fairly new boater

Capt Tom, on my '02 170CC the light for the compass was wired to the back lights to the instrument dials. Very low amperage so little if any chance of overload. $150 to install the fish finder seems a little high. Took me an hour to install mine. As Fischer pointed out there is a pipe through which you can fish the wire to the transducer. Mine had a nylon string all ready run through it so all I had to do was tie on and pull. Be sure to tag another stringbefore you pull so that future installs will be easy. I for one don't own a fish tape but I guess that would be the alternative. As for power for the FF. I taged mine into an unused switch on the dash. There's on for lights, one for bilge and one for bait well as well as one that was unused on mine. I hooked the stereo and the FF to that switch so that I could shut them off when not in use. Also, it easier to visually verify that everything is off one on the trailer since all switches in the down position is every thing off. Hope this helps.

PS be sure to install the appropriate fuse in you power supply line. The switch on the dash has a breaker but you'll probably need something a little more appropriatly sized.

Thanks for the advice Moe th. yest. It doesn't sound like rocket science and besides when I pick up my new 170cc it will be fun to install something by myself, then I can tell my wife I saved her money.

And plus you get the satisfaction of telling everyone you did the work. I allways worry about installs, but in the end even a guy like me can do it....then so can anybody. :-}}

Wink Electronics install

You might want to consider getting a piece of "smurf pipe" from your electrician buddy or Home Depot, It's a powder blue convoluted flexible plastic pipe for electrical wiring in homes, it comes in 10' lengths and is a perfect add to more electronics in your 17cc. Just guide it thru the hole in the floor inside the console facing the aft. It will follow the existing chase pipe from the factory in the tunnel and pop out at the inpection hole in the motor well. Now you can run your primary power from the battery up to the center console in the smurf pipe and add a fuse block to run anything in multiples if you want, while still maintaining the original black chase pipe from the factory for your transducer cable. It's cheap, waterproof,fast,easy,and you should use 10 gauge tinned primary auto wire. With this application you will never run out of power for any electronics possible and then some. And, don't forget to SOLDER the terminal ends and use heat shrink for protection from the salt air.Check my photos on mods for 170cc.........Dan

electronics ionstall

Is the existing black conduit between the console and back behind the gas tank empty, or are there other wires running through it? I'm going to try to run my transducer cable through it, and the nut on the cable looks like it will be a tight fit all by itself.
