Broken Steering Cable

I rented a 2002 Triumph in Key West. While we had the boat out the steering cable broke, it was frayed. I had to get 15 stiches in my head because I went flying..boat almost capsized.

Has anyone heard of something like this?

Thanks

Ouch! Never heard of this one. The cables are likely made by Teleflex and were installed along with the motor and other rigging by whatever dealer sold the boat to the rental place - or the rental place did the install. In addition, I would suspect that four year-round seasons of rental abuse prolly was the chief contributing factor. I can imagine that a broken cable at top speed could be quite dangerous. Glad to hear that you are okay - despite the stitches.
