Baitwell Modification
Similar to Cargrove's previous post, I was tired of the live well leaking while up on plane and finding that my bait well had little or no water left in it after making a run between spots.
I made a few modifications for about $35 and now my live well problems are over. I started by purchasing a bracket for $20 that mounts to the live well pickup and will act as a high-speed pickup so that I can keep circulating water while up on plane. It only took 5 minutes to install didn't require drilling into the hull. I bought some self-adhesive weather-stripping from Home Depot and used that to form a gasket around the live well to keep from splashing. I also bought a couple of plastic hinges and some SS screws for less than $10 so that I could attach the lid directly to the boat. Not only is this more convenient out on the water, but there have been a couple of times when I trailered the boat and noticed that the lid came loose and was sliding around somewhere in the boat. Now I don't have to worry about losing the lid or taking it out of the boat when I take it to and from the boat ramp. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bought it at Tracker Marine in Largo, FL but here's the link where you should be able to purchase it on the internet: http://www.thmarine.com/product.cfm?PRID=168. I heard you can also order these from Overtons (item # 70789)
I got the 2" model for $20 and it fits perfect. It mounts on the existing nut for the livewell pickup so it doesn't require any holes in the hull. I have used it on several trips and it works great, keeping constant water flow to the bait. The seal has also eliminated most/all of the splashing so there is no more spray while up on plane either. This was a quick, easy, cheap mod and was completely worth it. I would recommend anyone with the same lid set-up to do this.

I have a 2007 170CC - Il ooked closely on my boat. I draw water for the livewell from the underside/bottom of the boat (5" forward of the transom), via the seacock and livewell pump to the livewell. My drain for all (livewell and splashwell) is via chromed tru-hull fitting in the transom, where your pics have livewll pick-up installed.
Are you drawing water via livewell pickup, thru the transom and forcing water up through drain lines via bottom of the livewell? If so why? Is you boat plumbed differently? The EZ livewell pickup for my boat really doesn't solve anything or I am missing the "boat." My livewell doesn't overflow via the drain due to overflow pipe stuck in the liveweel drain (put a screen over the top of the PVC pipe, or the bait wil leave yo, espeially minnows). However, I am constantly forget to turn onthe pumps to circulate "new" water for my bait. I need a livewll pump timer perhaps? |

My livewell water is pumped from the seacock which runs through the transom. When up on plane, the pump is out of the water and therefore it is unable to pump in fresh water. The EZ Flow mounts to the seacock and reaches down far enough to scoop up fresh water when up on plane.
The slashing is coming from the lid. There wasn't adequate sealing so when the boat is bouncing around the livewell loses water.

Mine is different - my pump sputters on plane. I need a live well pickup scoop for the bottom of the boat. However. my trailer bunk is right where the hole goes up thru the bottom (which was part of the problem, how is it plumbed?) I put a grate/circular cover on the opening to keep the grass/debris out, but now I get the sputtering.
Triumph must have changed design, my thru-hull thru the transom is a drain. |
