Installing a fishfinder in the 170CC

I'm the proud new owner of a 170cc getting it ready for the season. Decided to install a fishfinder myself and was wondering about snaking the line from the transom to the center console--is there an easy way to do this? The dealer said there was a tube running from the console to the transom - should i just fish a line down this tube (thats assuming I can find the tube!) Thanks in advance for help

170cc Fishfinder Installation

There is a plastic tube that runs from the console to the transom, there should be a white nylon looking cord sticking out at the console, and at the transom. I had to reach from the battery location, under where the gas hose runs, to find it. But it is there! I, and everyone else I've read about here had a hard time finding it, just keep looking.
Be sure that before you fish your cables through, that you tie a piece of fishing line to them, so you can pull the nylon cord back, for the next time you need it.

FYI, there is also a tube which runs from the center console to the round access pannel under to bow light. It also should have a cord with in it. You can find pictures on this site and use the the search provisions to become better informed how others have performed this instalation in the past. Bob

CRIMAR30 hit the nail on the head. The plastic tube makes it a quick install. I might add that you will have to pull from the rear of the boat to the console as the tube is just big enough to pull the connector end through. One person can do it but two will make it a much easier job. Congrats on the new boat. Good luck.

Boy you guys are good and this site is fantastic. I plan to install one of these someday soon, and now I know I can do it with relative ease.

Thanks,
Jim

As noted already, the factory says "There is a 1" rigging tube that leads from the console to the transom area just below the inspection plate. This is a black tube that leaves the factory with a pull string running through it. Feel under the console for the tube where all the rigging cables run. If you use the pull string we strongly recommend tying another pull string to run back through the tube for future use."

Thanks alot for the help and quick reply! (sounds easy but we know how those jobs go...)

Second question - where do you think is the best place to mount the main unit, behind the drink holder or on top of the console ( I have a small Humminbird)

I mounted mine on the console in front of the gas guage and the hour meter. I used my tachometer constanly, so I could still see that. I would leave enough space so you can tilt your fishfinder all the way flat so you can see it easily when you are standing up running the boat.

Take a look in the photo section on this site. There are quite a few pictures of what other owners have done to their boats and where they have mounted their electronics. You should get lots of ideas to get you going.

duh on me

Dang I wish I had read that before I pulled that darn string out to see what in the heck it was! I put my unit on top of the console on a gimbaled mount so I can turn it around and view it from the bow when using the front seat. Now I'm gonna have to find that tube, I already fished another string in but i can pretty much guarantee it ain't in the tube. Experience is what you get when you don't get what you set out for.
Youse guys ROCK!
thanks
Biff
