Livewell Seacock
Just took delivery of a 2008 170 DC and have been trying to become familiar with all the pieces and parts. This website has been great in helping!
Got a dumb question....where is the seacock for the livewell. I can't see it by the pump looking thru the sterm observation hatch........ and I can't reach down to feel if there really is a valve. I have small arms but there is a very large bunch of wires in the way. The manual shows a seacock on a diagram in the manual. but I am beginning to think that this is incorrect. Anyone got any thoughts on this? No big rush as we are still iced in! |

There is no dumb question on here. I have an 06 17CC and the only shut off was to screw the regulator spout all the way in. It shut it off but I added a tee with another line and two shut values close to the pump so I could fill my bait tank or my livewell.

Thanks for the info....... it took me 10 minutes to find the dipstick on the F60 yamaha!!...Now all I have to do is find out why the intake for the livewell is on the bunk. Seems like a poor design but maybe there is a good reason.
See ya |

Not real sure why it's there, but in can be a problem sometimes. I was flounder gigging and must have hit the switch by mistake and filled the lines with sand, but you can flush the lines and pump out with a hose pipe and it worked fine after that.

Sea cock
Hi WS,
If you open the access plate in front of the motor and look on the starboard side, you will see the bait well pump. The seacock handle is right next to it (Flat piece of plastic coated metel). Very hard to get to. Even my son's skinny arms could not reach in enough to open it (vertical is open). I used a coat hanger and pulled it up halfway, my son finished the rest. God help me if I every have to close it. Barry

Think I spotted the elusive valve using a mechanics mirror and led light. Looks like the only access is going to be by unscrewing the base of the access plate. If the valve handle has a hole in it I might be able to install a rod on it so that I can then use it by just removing the small access plate.
If there wasn't a thick black coax cable type thing running bewteen the fuel tank and the transom there might have been enough room to reach the valve without having to take apart the access plate. |

Try before you unscrew.
WS, I was about the do the same thing. The bolts have nuts on the bottom side and it's hard to get a wrench on them.
Yes, there is a hold in the handle. Try the coat hanger first. Just use a wire coat hanger and bend a small hook on one end. Insert into the hole and gently pull up. The valve may be a bit stiff. When you get is half way, you should be able to reach in and move it the rest.

Thanks for the info....sounds like there is something that can be done. I'm just stubborn enough to keep trying. If I can come up with anything worthwhile I'll let you know.
