170DC on EZ Loader Bunk Trailer

Just noticed that the inlet for the livewell sits on the bunk, Is this normal? Will it distort the bottom of the boat over time? Any info would be appreciated as I am a newby for this craft.

Thanks

Bunk

I just talked to Carl Merritt at Merritt Marine and someone from the factory that's here right now and they told me that the bunk has a notch in it for the fitting. If it does not it could be a problem. You should be able to feel the notch. There were some boats that left the factory without it.

Thanks for the info.....There is about 3-4 inches of plank sticking out from the sterm so maybe the boat is positioned too far forward. Guess I'll see if I can move the boat back a tad and find the cutout.

Thanks again for getting the info.....much rather ask than be sorry.

Gotta love this place! Hooked the trailer up to my tow car and then hooked up the stern using rope to my tractor....a little reverse on the tractor pulled the boat even with the center bunks. The inlet for the live well is now sitting in the pocket. Also changed out the rather small light weight winch for a two speed that I used on my 2500 pound Trophy. With a 9 - 10 foot tide some of the ramps are a bit steep so the two speed should work well on the 170 DC. Also had to adjust the post forward a few inches to make up for the new position on the trailer.
Thanks again, I don't think I'll have any more questions, at least for today!

I did not find a cutout in any of the bunks and the last time I looked at the bunks with the boat in the water there was a small tear in the aft area of the starboard center bunk carpet. I am not sure how to jack the boat up safely to check and it may be awhile until I get it in the water again. Suggestions would be welcome. My dealer is about 100 miles round trip towing the boat for no fun. Thanks flatfishmoe for the info.

The cutout is really just where the wood of the bunk has been shaved down . The carpet covers this so it doesn't look that different. If you run your fingers along the top of the inner starboard bunk you can feel where the wood dips down. Before I repositioned my boat on the bunks I took a piece of photo paper (any stiff paper would do) and slid it between the bunk and the boat until it hit where the inlet protrudes thru the hull. In my case I could then see that the boat needed to go back a couple of inches so that the inlet was situated over the bunk "cutout". From there it was just a matter of pulling the boat back with a tractor.
The stern of the boat should be just about dead even with the inner bunks. In my case it made a bit of a reduction with the tongue weigth as well .

Thanks

Thanks wschapinjr, I may not have a tractor ,(I am envious), but I think I could tie it to something while I drive forward about 3-4 inches. I hope that will take care of it. I may have to bring my winch stand back a little to keep this from happening in the future. I will still have to ascertain if there is indeed a cutout but this will ease my mind for now. Good idea with the paper. Thanks again for the feedback.

Food for thought.....loosen your winch strap but two inches so that the boat doesn't go too far. You might just tie rope around a tree and tug an inch at a time.
Good luck

Bunk Trailers

So will this damage the boat if not properly lined up?

IMHO, if the inlet is allowed to sit on the bunk then the hull could become deflected upward over time. It could also help to break the seal between the inlet and the hull. But having said all that, I am but a newby with the Triumph boats. Most of my experience up here on the coast of Maine is with glass, wood or aluminum.
