Smile Spare Wheel

For my 170CC, I have the EZloader trailer with break away tongue. I want to attach a tire mount for a spare wheel.

I've seen several different models at West Marine. Any suggestions on what brand/model works best?

One other question. I've had an issue with my Yamaha tach. It fogs up with moisture condensing on the glass. I removed the tach and sent back to my dealer. He sent it off to Triumph and they sent another one. This one has the same problem. I called Yamaha directly and the technician stated that the analog guages have a vent and will breath, so, condensation may occure. The strange thing, the fuel guage and spedo don't have this problem. Any thoughts?

Guages

Hi Barry, I had all my guages replaced because I couldn't read them due to condensation. No one has stated that they should "breath". In fact my dealer said that it was just a problem waiting to happen, which is why they were replaced. At first a couple of the new guages showed condensation but not much and it hasn't shown up for awhile. Don't know if it actually went away or the warmer weather vaporized it for now. Guess I'll see next winter. Please let us know what you find out. Can't help with the trailer because I haven't figured mine out as yet.

I had a 2004 170CC and the guages would fog up until I learned to leave the hatch to the console open when the boat sat in the yard.I live in SE NC and we have a high amount of humidity. You would be surprised at the amount of heat and moisture that can build up inside that little console. I had a cover on my boat while it was on the trailer so I was able to leave the hatch open. When the hatch is closed for an extended period on warm days all of that heated moisture rises up to the guages, I guess. Good luck.

Hi Barry:

Just a thought on the spare tire. I had a Karavan trailer for another boat and it had the breakaway tongue. I found that I had to bolt the tongue permanently so that the tire holder/carrier could bolt onto the breakaway part of the tongue. In the fall, I would remove the tire carrier and then the tongue bolt after I had put the boat into storage. Guess they think that if you have a breakaway tongue you don't need a spare tire.
One other option, if you have the clearance, is to mount the tire below the trailer. I have seen some bass boats with a carrier slung between the frame of the trailer.

Hi WS,

Did not think about mounting below the trailer. Time to shop.

Thanks.

Spare wheel and mount is installed. Works great! I'll post a photo another day.
