Red face Very cool

Hi PA,

I'm very interested in the LED lighting around the deck. The same idea has been floating around my head.

Would you put in a seperate power switch for the lighting? If so, where? I would like to do the same, and keep the switches the same as what's on the boat. But, there is no room. So, I thought about tying the lighting into the anchor light since the anchor light is on when running lights are on or when anchor light alone is on.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance for any help.

LED Courtesy Lights

Barry,

I am going to install a seperate switch for the courtesy/panel Lighting. I do have room for the switch since my 03 has the toggle switches instead of the rockers. One thing I am planning on doing in the furture is replacing my wiring harness with a CANBus system, and that would allow my to convert to rockers and eleminate the circuit breakers on the helm. To do the panel Lights, I am going to break out my CNC Router and fabricate new panels that are engraved instead of screen printed, That way the light can pass through the rear of the panel. Once I get into the boat I will have a better idea on the access I have for courtesy lights. I would like to put them in the gunwales but may end up having to mount the in the console instead. I am writing detailed How-To articles of everything I do, complete with pictures and will post them whn I complete a project. The first one should be posted next week and will be about installing my bait-well pickup, new pump, and washdown system. If you are tackling the lighting project before I get to mine, let me know and I will be glad to help you out.

Smile Never stop learning

Hi PA,

Thanks for the future help. Yes I thought about the gunwale, however, then you have to deal with the foam. So, I thought, 1 in front of the bait well (all lights facing down to light the floor), 1 on each side of the Center console, 1 on the back of the center console and 2 where the rear seats are (one for port, one for starboard). I also would put one in the bait well itself.

However, I want to think it through and see what you do first.

Learn from the experts first.

LEDs

Well, I can say I am definitely doing one in the baitwell. It will be included with my Baitwell Modification article. Should be posted in early June. As for the rest. It will probably be the fall after business slows down. I want to pull up the floor and get a good feel for what I have to work with before I commit to Console or Gunwale. I chose that time period also to convert my boat to a self-bailing cockpit and will have the floor up anyway for that project.
