6 Adults

We were told by the dealer it would be okay to go out with 6 adults...But then we realized that the 17 DC is only rated at 800 Lbs. Has anyone been out with 6 adults ?????

Capacity

Good Evening:

I have a 170 DC and I would never overload a boat for any reason. According to the specs the capacity of the craft is 1340 pounds. Back out engine, fuel, and assorted hardware and you can determine how much weight you have left for the human element.
Bottom line is that you might get 6 very small people or maybe two very large ones. Go by weight not head count and never excede the limits.

if you could find six 120 lbs adult to go out, you will find it would be very cramped. I have found 4 to be the limit in terms of comfort, and if you are trying to fish, 3 or even 2 when you figure in casting room and additional gear.

there's no way I would put 6 adults in my 170. I've had 3 full grown adults plus myself in the choppy harbor and the 170 was impressive add 2 more and I fell I would have had a safety issue considering seating ect. JEB

Smile Weight issues

Hi E,

I've been out with three adults plus about 300lbs of dive gear. I can say for sure that two of the adults are between 200lbs and 250lbs and one is a petite 110lb.

Boat handled and bobs in the water without a problem. Some waves would break over the stern but the bilge pump handles that.

That is the reason I put the 70Hp Yamaha 2 stroke. It was the lightest engine for the transom at 228lbs.

However, I would never dive off the boat in anything greater that 2 foot rollers. Boat is too small and larger waves make the boat roll.

If you routinely take out six adults, the 170 is not the boat for you. I've had six bodies in mine towing a tube (two adults, two teenagers, two children) and it performed fine but six adults, IMO, is just not something you want to do regularly. If you are going to take anyone fishing, you can do up to four if you're bottom fishing...casting plugs and you need to drop that to three maximum. This boat fishes two very comfortably. If six adults is the norm for you, you will need a larger boat.

Don't let the dealer talk you into something that is not the perfect fit for you...and above all, take whatever boat you're thinking about buying for a test run and load it like you expect to normally. If the dealer can't accomodate you on that, find a new dealer.

Good luck with your search.

6 adults in anything smaller than a 215 is not smart and (to be frank) 6 adults crammed in a 170 and a storm blows up, is the reason why we have the Coast Guard

Coasties

I can think of some more reasons for the coasties but they fall along those same lines.

putershark the max for a 215 is 10 people and i cant remember the lbs but. 10 people on a 215 no way on my boat its almost to much with 6 on board. i would not even think about putting 10 people on it i have had 6 but we were just riding around in the lake. and if you are fishing 4 is just right 5 you get in peoples way. 6 in a 170 that might be a little like... the get your foot out of my ear boat ride.

I've had 5 heafty adults and my dog in my 170cc with a 70hp Suzuki. The boat is fine running in the river on a calm day but, I would not run more than 4 adults in the ocean. For fishing 3 would be the max or you will be in each other's way. I love my 170cc it is extremely fuel efficient and handles great in rough water. My wife and I have a place at the beach and live on the river so, we run the boat in both areas. The 170cc is perfect for running in both areas anything larger I wouldn't be able to get up in the creeks I like to fish in and anything smaller would make a rough ride with all of the yachts kicking serious wake.
