Angry tach quit

my tach quit working yesterday...170 cc w/ 75 e-tec....dealer is out of business...what should I check first, the instrument itself or the sending unit? on the motor....????

I checked with the factory on this for you and here was their response:

First place I would check is the tach. Check to see if you are getting power to the unit. If you are it is more than likely the gauge. If not I would have an Etec dealer look at the motor.

I went through the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

I'm attaching a couple of PDF files from Faria, if you have a different brand go to their web site for similar instructions. Also, check the wiring coming from the stator to the voltage regulator and then check the wiring from the voltage regulator to the tachometer. Use an Ohm meter to verfiy the wires are not broken.
