Trim tab on motor

So I bought a 170CC back in Feb '02. I recently swaped my new back up prop for use full time and retired the original to the backup role. At any rate the new prop is a Michigan WHeel same pitch and size. First time out I noticed I was getting more prop torque at the wheel. I assumed it was the slight variation in the prop although technically they should be the same. Got out the trusty socket and adjusted the tab just above the prop to counter the torque. Man what a difference. I've come to realize that the tab was never adjusted properly to begin with. So for three years I've been wrestling the wheel for nothing. Live and learn the hard way. Now I've got finger tip steering all the time, previously I'd trim out until the steering became light to the touch. I guess I assumed too much from my dealer when they set the boat up.

What brand/size motor do you have? I cannot say I remember a tab above the prop. There is a zinc with a fin on it below the the cavitation plate and behind the prop. Is that what you are referring to? If so which way did you set it up? Left, right, or straight ahead?

Fischer, 70 hp 2 stroke Yamaha. I'm talking about the fin/zinc thing. I have always heard them called tabs. I actually turned it to the starboard 5 or 10 degrees. I took my wrench with me and adjusted it 3 times until I got it right. Adjust, test, adjust, test and so on. Originally it was set straight.
