yamaha gauges 170cc 2004

I have a 04 170cc with a yamaha 75hp 4 stroke. The gas gauge reads empty when it is down to a half tank. Last year I heard this was normal and the factory was working on a new sending unit. Has anyboby herd of a new sending unit? anybody have this problem? And don't tell me to look at the tank or to fill up before I go out. I'm looking for solutions!!!!!!!! THANKS edk

edk, get yourself a fuel management guage if it sweats you that much. I've yet to see any fuel gauge on a boat that was remotely accurate. My 170CC has the same problem. I just keep it full and add some Stabil stabilizer when necessary. It's pretty tough to exhaust the fuel supply in a day unless you're purely cruising. Since the tank has a rather weird shape it's hard to even eyeball it to make a determination of quantity.
