170 CC and the chesapeake bay

went over to my no so local Triumph dealer and they have sold their last '05 190 bay. They still have a few 170 CC's though. has anyone that owns a 170 ever used it on the chesapeake bay on a somewhat rough day? how did it hold up? do you mostly keep it in the rivers?

i ask because i plan to do some bay fishing as well as river fishing, but i don't want to regret not waiting for the '06 190 bay.

thanks

Talking

I talked to an engineer over a Triumph and the 06' 190 Bay is supposed to be better for fishing. If I were you, I would wait a few weeks to get the 06' 190 Bay. That's what we are doing.

Here are the changes that we know about for the 06, 190 Bay,

All SS will be 316
Leaning post and cooler is standard
Inst. panel will have a Hour meter and Voltmeter
Side rails will be 1 1/4" 316SS
Convertable rear seats are redesigned to have a higher back
Folding Cleats
Dealer cost increase

I take my 02 190 out in anything less than 3' chop. Swells are not bad, it is the chop that kills me. The 4 footers are too much of a pain and it can be very uncomfortable after a short period of time. I've been out in much worse only because I got caught in some snotty weather but the boat didn't come close to getting swamped - just scary.

The issue for many is always wanting a bigger boat. I want a 210 - but I know that eventaually I'd want a 230 and so on (Triumph doesn't make one - yet). My 190 is easy to trailer and can be launched at most ramps without a second person to help. So I'll be keeping this boat for a while.

I saw Fischer53's 170 over the weekend and it seemed to hold up rather well in the Vineyard Sound. But it was a pretty calm weekend on the water. I think we had some 2-3' swells on Friday but nothing to speak of other than rip-chop on Sat and Sun.

my 2 cents...if you want a 190, then wait for one, do not settle for less, you most likely regret it later.

It is clearly better to wait for a 2006 than save some dough and buy a 2005. Also as I have heard, the Starboard is supposed to be white to attract less heat. The Stainless Steel is also better quality. Also Suzuki has their Upgraded Warranty Deal going until June 30th. Here’s the link: http://suzukimarine.com/showsanddeals/gimme/ Ours is to go into production on the 13th of June and be delivered about 7 days later. Because we were supposed to get ours nearly two months ago, the dealer is keeping the price the same for us. (I'm actually glad because we are getting a better boat.) Wait a while and get the 2006 190 Bay.

I have a 170 CC. The boat can take 3 foot swells on a drift, although I would be reluctant to anchor in them. The problem for me is the boat does better in that weather than I do! I do agree with the general theme of waiting for a 190. I have had my boat less than a year, but the thought of more room in a 190 is real tempting. If you are going to be trailering, the 190 is still comfortable.

I think you would be much happier waiting for the 190. It will give you more room and greater flexability to go out on the bay which can get nasty real quick. Rivercat

190 bay

Thanks for all the replies guys. I ended up buying a new Silverado because of the sale GM has going on. So I guess I don't have much choice other than to wait to buy a boat of any sort. When I do decide to buy a Triumph, it'll be from Felicia at " hooked on the bay", she has great customer service, and it'll be a 190 or better.
