Bilge pump only??

With a new boat comes new questions. I am used to having drains in the bilge with one-way flow. On the 170cc, the pump is used to do all the work while under way.

Has anyone done a modification to add drains to the transom to allow the bilge pump a break every now and again??

I do not think its possible. Take a look at the boat while on the trailer. There are 2 black plugs down toward the keel on each side. They are at the lowest point of the bilge and they are well below the water line. My bilge pump never outputs unless I throw a couple of gallons of water around to wash off the fish blood or its raining.

The bilge pump is automatic and kicks on every few minutes to check for water. I think what you might want to consider is putting in a battery shutoff switch so the bilge does not run while on the trailer. Take a look at the Mods photos for the 170 and you can see what and where I put mine.

I use a automatic bilge pump (Rule 500) with the switch built in. It will only turn on when around an inch and a half of water trips the switch, so it won't kill the battery constantly cycleing all the time. Costs $50 at West Marine.
