Hey blacter,
How many speakers did you use? I haven't installed my stereo yet. I have 4 speakers, but I'm not sure where to put them. I was thinking about 2 in the console like you put in and 2 more on the sides of the console. Will I need an amp to pump up the volume with 4 speakers? Thanks again for posting the pictures. I'm far from an expert, but I think speakers pointing out from the sides of the console would be wasted. The aim is to point them toward the folks onboard, so if you want to use all four of your speakers to best advantage, you'll have to get creative in mounting them facing in from the transom or the sides, or the bow area. In any case, you'll want an amp just because a boat is such an inefficent place to listen to a stereo. There's nothing to contain the sound and there's usually plenty of ambient noise. The amp allows you to raise the volume to overcome those problems without distorting the sound you want to hear. The good news is that you can go with an inexpensive amp, since you're not expecting to achieve precise, subtle sound quality...just enough volume so you can hear the music.
