Stereo in a 170 cc

Hey, does anybody have any ideas or experience on the placement of a stereo deck in a 2004 triumph 170 CC. You know its hard to fish without some tunes! I just can't seem to visualize where a deck would go. I appreciate any feed back.

yesndeed,

I have an 04 170CC and I'm trying to decide where to put a stereo also. I think I will put it in the recessed part of the console where your knees would be. I mounted a fire extinguisher on the left side and I have yet to bump it with my knee. There is no support behind the ropolene, but I'm sure I can find a bracket to hold it. I also found waterproof face covers at Boaters World. They have the best prices on boat stereos and speakers so far. Let us 17' owners know what you decide and I'll do the same. Thanks,
John D.

I believe there was an owner on the original site that mounted a stereo on a shelf he made inside the center console and mounted the speakers low on each side of the console. there were pictures posted on the site but I can not tell were they ever got to.

Twas I who mounted the stereo inside the console. I have an '02 your console is a little different than mine but there are a couple of natural ledges on my '02. I bought a piece of Starboard and cut to length. Had to do a little finagleing but worked the Starboard to where it stood on top of the ledges. Bought a flat surface mounting box from the locale stereo shop and hung it below the shelf. Sorry no pics. They were on the old site and old computer.

Just uploaded a photo of my stereo setup in the 170 Modifications section of the gallery. The bracket is readily available at all the usual boating supply outlets. The 2004 center console provides plenty of room for speakers. Sound is okay, even though the speakers are closer to your knees than your ears.

Figured out how to add photos directly to forum postings. Here's my stereo setup...

Wow. Good eye. It's an amp for the stereo. You'll probably need one if you plan to try to listen to the stereo while the boat is underway. The amp let's you pump up the volume without the sound distorting.
